The Dandelion Fairy

Evelyn loves dandelions. There are quite a lot around these days and if you ask her ALL of them need to be picked. :) This makes trips to get the mail, trips to bring in the trash cans, trips out to the car to run errands etc all much more exciting. At the end she usually realizes that the pollen has rubbed off onto her hands and her hands are all yellow and grass stained. This causes much consternation, almost as much as leaving a few dandelions still unpicked. :) Needless to say, we have lots of dandelions around our house these days. :)

This past weekend was our church work day and Evie and I were on the weeding committee. I weeded the playground and flower beds and she picked dandelions. One of the youth group girls made her this beautiful crown and we got her a cup so she could carry all her pickings more easily. She was sooooo pleased! :)

Spring in Williamsburg

We have the most beautiful, random patch of daffodils just down the road from us. I love looking at them every time we walk by or drive into our neighborhood. We're loving the warm weather and light evenings and the other night we took an after dinner family walk to the daffodil patch.

Valentine's Day

Here are a few more pictures that we just downloaded from our other camera. These are from Valentine's day - such a fun day!
Evie opening her V-day presents - crayons and chalk! She's so easy to please. :)
The crayons are her favorite - the chalk has a tendency to get her hands dirty. ;)
I tried to get a good pictures of Evie in her Valentine's Day dress, but she was more interested in playing match or eating Cheerios than she was in getting a Valentine's Day picture. Hopefully you get the idea. :)

These pictures are from last month, but we just got them off our camera and they are so funny I thought I'd share them. :) We found some fake moustaches when we were packing and Evie had fun playing with them. ;)

Jamestown

Now that we live so very close to Jamestown, we decided to head over to the visitor center and reenactment area on Saturday. As residents we get in for free and it's a great place to explore and let Evie run around. She loved the long pathways for running and felt very cool walking on the wall with Daddy.

We visited the indian village first and she was terrified of the lodges. She did NOT want to sit on those animal skins and get her picture taken!
She felt a little better when Daddy let her stand on a stump in the middle of the wigwam.

Evelyn thinks dandelions are the most beautiful flowers. She was delighted to find some at Jamestown! I figured it's ok if I let her pick these kinds of flowers. :)
I'd say Evie had two highlights... the first was the musket being fired every half hour. Every time it'd go off she'd shout "POW!!!!!" It was hilarious! She was NOT a fan though when we actually went to see the musket demonstration. She wouldn't let go of Daddy the rest of the visit.
The main highlight though were the roosters and chickens! There are quite a few chickens and roosters that run around outside the fort. They're very used to people and quite friendly. They didn't mind how close Evie got (though too close scared me a bit).
We're looking forward to going back to Jamestown again soon!

Tea Party Time!

Evie and I had our first doll tea party together last week. :) My mom brought some of my American Girl furniture and my old baby cradle down with her when she came to help with our move. Evie is delighted. :) It's so fun to see her move on to little girl toys, not just baby toys!

Last week we set up a tea party with Samantha and her twin dolls. We used her picnic basket food (I knew if I went downstairs to get her tea set and pretend food that she'd lose interest :)). Every time she gave a doll a bite she'd go "mmmmmmmm!!!" :) Here she is setting up. :) (btw - none of the pictures are that great. If I make too big of a deal setting up or taking the picture then Evie stops what she is doing to watch me.)
  
About every three minutes she'd decide that it was time for the twins to take a nap. She'd throw them into the cradle, cover them with the blanket (she'd ask me to help every time so they'd be all neatly set in there), and rock them violently for about 4 seconds. Then she'd decide it was time for them to wake up and fling them out of the cradle across the room. She seemed surprised that they'd fly so far and that she had to walk so far to get them to bring them back to the party. :p

After a while she was sure the twins were full and she decided it was silky's turn to join the party. She was very particular about how she mounded silky into the chair. :p
This tea party probably lasted a full 40 minutes! I just love having a little girl and watching her imagination and creativity grow. :)

March 1

March 1st was beauuuuuutiful this year in Williamsburg! Sunny, high 70s, no humidity... it was perfect. Evelyn and I loved having a deck, back yard and big area in the front to run around and enjoy the day. Evie is happiest when she can be outside and I am so enjoying letting her run around our new place! Here are a few pictures from our delightful March 1st (btw - HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Aunt Nancy!! :))
We enjoyed a delightful picnic lunch out on the deck:

Evie thought taking her chair outside and putting it on the deck was so cool. :)
After her nap we planted some pansies out front. We were a little dirty when all was said and done, but we had a wonderful time. Things like planting flowers and painting your toe nails so you can wear sandals again are quite a bit harder with a 15 month old, but also way more fun. :)

Later we decided it was time for an orange snack (Evie's current favorite fruit). She wanted to sit in a chair outside for this snack. :) I was supposed to sit in the other chair to eat my snack too. :) Uncle Aaron gave us these camp chairs for our wedding and Evie is very happy that she is tall enough to climb in and out of them by herself now. :)

This morning Evie and I had our first pretend tea party with her new doll table and chairs. :) I can't get the pictures off my other camera for some reason, but as soon as I do, I'll share. :)
